Photoshop Tips and Tricks for Beginners

Photoshop is one of the best graphic tools available for designers and photographers. There is a lot you can do and make with Photoshop. However, before reaching the advanced tools and techniques, it is important to master the basics of this platform.

If you are just beginning out with this image editing software, here are some photoshop tips and tricks for beginners you can put to use:

1.) Customized Workspace – To create a project-specific workspace, simply choose and arrange the components and palettes per your needs. Then select: Windows>Workspace>Save Workspace.

You can choose a specific name for your workspace and save it, so it is available for future use. Creating customized workspaces can improve your productivity and help save time.

2.) Displaying Image in Two Windows – When you are working with an image, you might need to take a zoomed in view or a closer look at the picture to make any changes. To make sure that the changes look fine on the normal image, you can open a single image in two windows – one that will display the Normal View and one with the ‘Zoom in’ view, where you will make the changes.

3.) Using the Undo Feature – While making changes to an image, you can easily undo the changes by simply pressing CTRL+Z (windows shortcut for undo). This is a great shortcut you can use during first Photoshop training, as you will need to keep toggling back and forth to see the effects of your changes.

4.) Changing Background and Foreground Colors – An interesting feature of Photoshop is that it allows you to switch foreground and background colors for an image. Clicking on the color square will open the complete color panel, so you can choose the colors of your choice. To switch colors, simply press X. To restore the default color setting i.e. black as the foreground and white as the background color, simply press D.

5.) Opening Documents – To open a document, you do not need to reach out for the File Menu every time and then open a new document from there. You can simply double-click on the Grey window background on the Photoshop page, and a new document will open up.

6.) Viewing Individual Files – When you open multiple files, Photoshop cascades them which can make it difficult for you to view each file. To deal with this, you can perform a simple step.
